Most students never get to see a recommendation letter, so it’s hard to know what separates one that helps from one that just fills a slot. Below are some of my own letters, sanitized and annotated in the margins. Reading these next to each other is the quickest way I know to show what I mean when I ask you to help me know your work before you ask me to write.
